Problem:

Users of a Microsoft Access 2003 database could check checkboxes using the mouse but only uncheck them by clicking with the mouse then pressing the space bar. The same database was in use on many PCs but only some PCs showed the problem.

 

Solution:

Seems like the problem was caused by a Microsoft Office update. Installing Microsoft Hotfix KB945674 fixed the problem on all PCs.
